The Statue of Liberty, located on Liberty Island in New York, is one of the most famous tourist sites in New York City.自由女神像位于纽约市自由岛上，是纽约最著名的旅游景点之一。 

The Statue was designed by French sculptor Frederiic Auguste Bartholdi and completed in collaboration with French engineer Alexandre Gustave Eiffel (designer of the Eiffel Tower). 自由女神像由法国雕塑家弗雷德里克・奥古斯特・巴托尔迪设计，与法国工程师亚历山大・古斯塔夫・埃非尔（埃菲尔铁塔的设计者）合作完成。 

The Statue, dedicated on October 28, 1886, was a gift to the United States from the people of France in honor of the centennial of American independence and (in recognition of) the friendship established during the American Revolution. 雕像落成于1886年10月28日，是法国人民赠送给美国的礼物，以纪念美国独立一百周年及美国革命期间美法两国之间建立的友谊。 

It was agreed upon that the American people were to build the pedestal, and the French people were responsible for the Statue and its assembly in the United States. 双方达成一致，由美国负责建造基座部分，由法国负责雕像部分，并负责将它在美国组装起来。 

Meanwhile, the Statue was a joint effortbetween America and France. 同时，自由女神像也是美法两国共同努力（的结晶）。
